Pain in Upper Right Arm Between Shoulder and Elbow – What You Should Know About This Common Condition

The symptoms in the upper right arm pain may seem like something that is unrelated to your current health situation. However, you don’t want to wait until you have become ill or injured before treating the pain. You could worsen your condition before you even realize what is happening, which would mean longer treatments or missed opportunities to get better.

The first step to treating this pain in the upper right shoulder and the right shoulder is to take steps to reduce inflammation. This swelling typically occurs because of oversensitivity in the muscles responsible for controlling the arm movement. To reduce swelling, ice packs and/or hot compresses can be used to reduce inflammation and hopefully ease the pain. Massage can also help relieve some of the pain in the shoulder and affected area.

Your doctor will likely prescribe a steroid cream or injection to begin relieving the pain in the affected area.

If the pain does not subside after three to four weeks of therapy or prescription medication, then it is time to start thinking about physical therapy to strengthen the rotator cuff muscles. An exercise regime of deep stretching and strengthening will help to prevent the muscles from becoming weak and tight. In addition, this will increase mobility of the affected area. A doctor will most likely recommend physical therapy and an anti-inflammatory to help alleviate the pain in between the shoulder and elbow. Anti-inflammatory medications will also help to decrease the swelling.

If at any point the symptoms do not improve or get worse, then you should consult a doctor. Your doctor will perform a diagnostic test called arthroscopy to look for potential shoulder and acromion damage. Arthroscopy can be done as an outpatient procedure with no overnight stay in the hospital.
